Mumbai Sinking
“Mumbai is the meanest place, where you survive if you got the pace. Chota Chota Lafda bane Police case, bada bada lafda gul without trace” when I first heard the song I realised it is true!
People without face, but with pace, running around each morning, or night! Truly the CITY never sleeps; no I am not endorsing any bank or its product.
Now there are more reasons to be sleepless! Beware we are sinking, and stinking bad! A city that was considered to be safest place not so long ago, is now the most dreaded place.
Mumbai is moving towards becoming the “Crime Capital” of the world. The recent attack on a group of youngsters, two young lives gone for the want of civility! Phew, I think we are losing it! A small incident of eve-teasing that turned gruesome. Standing up for what was correct, cost them their lives. The accused have surrendered. Does it make a difference even if they are given life sentence? Lives are lost, so have hope and faith in humanity. We all pity the condition, but cannot do much beyond that!
Sex is an issue that is considered taboo, but we have moved on in life! The irony of a Mumbaikar, Bollywood movies promote promiscuity, innuendos & live in relationships that are against Indian traditional culture gets a standing ovation and the bar-girls who are forced to work at night for a living gets the whip! Resultant - weirdoes, rather sex maniacs running all around the city make this place no less than the villains den!
Where are we heading towards? I know, as much as you do there is no answer, only a dreadful silence.
Where can we seek help from? The man on the street? The Policemen? The Politicians? I know for sure that none of them would be of help! Ask yourselves a question” What would you have done in such a situation? I have had bad experiences in the past, standing up for someone else, would I dare to stand up again? Would I muster the courage to speak up and do what is right? I don’t know yet! When the situation comes up I may run away this time, who knows!
Sinking in Sin! |
All of us have our priorities in place and risking our lives is probably the last we have on our minds. We promptly join a Morcha, begin a movement, and love being a part of a mass movement! But when it comes to Action where are we?
Can we do something about it? Or sit back and let life pass by? Think about it before it is too late! For now is the time to act, else we would all loose a wonderful city to the shames of crime and corruption!
Don’t waste time Thinking, our beloved Mumbai is sinking!
